Turning colder next week in San Antonio

Preliminary outlook:

  • Colder air should arrive Monday
  • Coldest temperatures Tuesday through Thursday (7th-9th)
  • Light freeze likely, but an extended period below freezing is unlikely
  • SLIGHT Chance of wintry precipitation sometime Wednesday through Friday
  • This will NOT BE like February 2021
  • Forecast details will change significantly throughout the week

Arctic air will spill into the U.S. from Canada and is likely to cause a noticeable change across Texas starting Monday. This won’t be like February of 2021, but a light freeze and chilly days can be expected.

As of now, we’re expecting mornings to drop near freezing with afternoon highs potentially as low as 40° for a day or two. The big wild card is a slight chance of wintry precipitation sometime between January 8th and 10th. That’s only if conditions come together in an exact way, and those forecasts are highly unreliable this far out. While an extended period of freezing temperatures is unlikely, folks in the Hill Country with exposed pipes should be prepared to take the necessary precautions – just in case.

Food for thought … one of the main computer models we use has displayed a tendency to over exaggerate the cold 7+ days out on several occasions this winter – jus’ sayin’.

Friendly reminder, the forecast you see and hear now, will be different from the forecast you see and hear Sunday night/Monday morning, so please check back for updates.
