We’re excited that we’ve started entering the world of high-resolution weather models as we prepare for an upcoming winter weather event in Texas! Baldy-in-Chief, David Reimer, provides a detailed evening #TexasWeatherRoundup that includes a timeline. Snow is set to begin falling on Wednesday afternoon in the Borderland (El Paso), Trans-Pecos, and Far West Texas.
From late Wednesday into Thursday morning, we’ll experience a mix of precipitation types spreading east across Texas, starting with some light ice accumulation, and a clear rain/snow line will develop during the day. This rain/snow line will gradually shift north on Thursday afternoon, likely reaching near Interstate 20 from the Permian Basin to Big Country, North Texas, and Northeast Texas.

North of this line, we could see heavy, wet snow, which may lead to some travel impacts. For the southern two-thirds of Texas, heavy rain is expected as the activity spreads to the east. Everything should clear out of Texas by lunchtime on Friday, but do keep in mind that a hard freeze may cause any water or melted snow to turn into ice from Friday night into Saturday morning, so stay safe!
