Changes are coming to Texas’ weather with the departure of our upper-level heat dome. The high pressure responsible for our scorching temperatures has moved north. In its wake, an upper-level low pressure will bring scattered showers and storms to the southeastern third of Texas today. On Tuesday, we’ll see isolated to scattered storms across the western third and the eastern half of Texas. Isolated to scattered storms will become a daily occurrence beginning Thursday and continue through the weekend across most of Texas. The heat wave is breaking.
We will not have widespread rain daily, nor will everyone get rain every day over the coming week. More folks than not will miss out on rain chances each day. However, add up several days of rain chances by the weekend, and the probability is better than not that most folks will get at least a few raindrops. The weather pattern this weekend into next week favors above-average rain chances.

Is the hottest weather of 2024 behind us?
With the departure of the upper-level heat dome and at least some uptick in cloud cover from rain chances, we will decrease the afternoon high temperatures. Compared to last week, which had high temperatures ranging from 100 to 114 degrees, we’re looking at the middle 80s to upper 90s this week. A few folks will still approach 100 degrees at times this week. If you end up with a storm nearby, you’ll probably get to enjoy a few hours of rain-cooled temperatures down into the 70s. Temperatures look to trend down closer to the upper 80s and lower 90s this weekend.
This week’s storms will produce dangerous cloud-to-ground lightning, gusty winds over 45 MPH, small hail, and heavy rain. Widespread severe weather (tornadoes, large hail, destructive winds) is not expected. I’m optimistic, but we may be past the hottest weather of 2024. Still, it’ll be hot as we head into September.
