Over the next day and a half, we can expect multiple rounds of thunderstorms to sweep across the eastern half of Texas, bringing heavy rain with them. While these beneficial rains are much needed, some areas might experience a bit too much in a short time, which could lead to localized flooding and high water on roads. Creeks and streams may also rise across Central Texas, North Texas, Brazos Valley, Coastal Plains, Southeast Texas, East Texas, and Northeast Texas. Please take care when driving near construction zones and low-water crossings tonight and into Wednesday morning.
A cluster of storms will develop and move from west to east across the Brazos Valley, Southeast Texas, Coastal Plains, East Texas, and the Golden Triangle on Wednesday morning. A few of these storms could become severe, bringing localized damaging wind gusts and even brief tornadoes, alongside heavy rainfall. Thankfully, most of the storms should move east of Texas by lunchtime Wednesday, but we might see a final round of scattered showers and storms in Southeast Texas and the Golden Triangle Wednesday evening.

In the Texas Panhandle, be prepared for freezing fog, freezing drizzle, and light freezing rain throughout the day. Tonight and Wednesday morning, we may notice an increase in freezing rain across the Texas Panhandle, potentially stretching from a line north of Plainview to Childress. Light ice accumulations can create slick roads, so it’s wise to exercise caution when driving, especially on bridges and overpasses. Additionally, light snow accumulations could occur in the northern Texas Panhandle before the precipitation wraps up on Wednesday.
