Hotter than a well-done steak topped with crispy bacon—that’s a fitting way to describe the upcoming days across Texas, as we brace for record high temperatures. In fact, these temperatures would be extreme even if it were July or August, as we endure what feels like a “summer of hell” in the next few days. For those who complained about the cold weather this winter, your time has finally come. For everyone else, it’s time to grab the sunscreen and fill those gallon-sized water jugs.
High temperatures are expected to soar between 105 and 109 degrees across the southwestern half of Texas from this afternoon through at least Wednesday. In the Dallas/Fort Worth area, we will hit our first 100-degree day of the year on Wednesday. However, a change in the weather pattern will bring cooler temperatures back to the northwestern half of Texas by the end of the work week and into the weekend.
Thunderstorm chances will also return this weekend into early next week for parts of Texoma, Northeast Texas, North Texas, and potentially farther south into Central Texas and the Hill Country. While we are not anticipating widespread rain, afternoon and evening storms are expected to make a comeback, bringing the possibility of large hail and damaging wind gusts. Keep in mind that most people may not see any rain or storms. Meanwhile, the southern half of Texas will continue to experience typical summertime weather over the next five days, at least.
