August has arrived, and the weather in Texas is much like you’d expect… hot with a side of dust, wildfire smoke, and humidity. Truth be told, while it will be hot, it still isn’t to the extreme that the previous two summers brought. We even have a chance to discuss spotty thunderstorms!
High temperatures across Texas will be in the 90s and 100s over the next five to seven days. A weak boundary will allow for isolated to widely scattered storms in the Panhandle this evening into Friday, the northern half of Texas on Saturday, and the southern half of Texas on Sunday. Most folks will remain dry, but the lucky winners could have a quick gully washer and a few rain-cooled hours that won’t feel like summer. Frequent lightning, gusty winds, and blowing dust will be possible with any storms.

Otherwise, we’ll see Saharan dust stick around for a few more days. It’s concentrated above the surface and shouldn’t directly impact our air quality. That being said, you’ll notice the haze in the sky. Some wildfire smoke will also be present in the upper atmosphere across the northern half of Texas.
Rain chances look to shut off again as we enter the upcoming work week, with summertime temperatures sticking around. A tropical disturbance may impact the eastern Gulf of Mexico next week. Direct impacts to Texas from tropical mischief continue to look unlikely for the next seven days, at least.
