Texas Weather Clearing Out & Cooling Down for Election Day

A cold front has pushed through most of Texas overnight with scattered showers and thunderstorms. The front will continue moving through the remainder of Texas this morning. Showers and a few storms will remain possible across the Texas Gulf Coast, Deep South Texas, and the eastern quarter of Texas this morning. Rain chances will end state-wide this afternoon with clearing skies. It’ll feel like a fall day, too! If you’re heading out to vote, it’s not bad weather this afternoon.

Wet Weather Returns to Texas on Thursday

Our lull in active weather will be relatively short-lived and will begin ending Wednesday night. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday morning all look active as our next upper-level storm system arrives. Rain chances will be highest on Thursday, Thursday Night, and Friday morning across the western half of Texas. Friday afternoon through Saturday morning will see the highest rain chances across the eastern half of Texas. Some wet snow may mix in with rain across the western Texas Panhandle and West Texas on Thursday. We may also have to deal with stronger storms at times on Thursday and Friday with hail. We’ll continue accessing the severe thunderstorm potential as we get closer to late week.

Tropical Storm Rafael moving toward the Gulf of Mexico

Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Rafael is near Jamaica this morning. It’ll move northwest over Cuba as a hurricane on Wednesday before moving northwest into the Gulf of Mexico on Thursday. We can’t rule out Rafael trying to move into the western Gulf of Mexico late this week. However, conditions will not favor a significant tropical system directly impacting Texas. Even if it does approach our coast, it’ll be shredded to bits by our late-week cold front. If we have any weather-related impacts, it’ll be in the form of increased moisture and rain chances continuing into Saturday across the southeastern third of Texas.
