200 PM MST Wed Jul 24 2024 The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a * Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of Central and southern Arizona * Effective this Wednesday afternoon and evening from 200 PM until 900 PM MST. * Primary threats include... Isolated damaging wind gusts to 70 mph possible SUMMARY...Clusters of thunderstorms will form over the Rim and
spread southwestward to the lower deserts through late evening. The
storm environment will favor strong downdrafts capable of producing
occasional damaging/severe outflow gusts of 60-70 mph. The severe thunderstorm watch area is approximately along and 75
statute miles north and south of a line from 30 miles west southwest
of Phoenix AZ to 65 miles east northeast of Tucson AZ. For a

Scattered damaging winds likely with isolated significant gusts to 75 mph possible SUMMARY...A broken linear cluster of thunderstorms will move
southward through the afternoon into the evening across the Watch
area. The stronger thunderstorm cores and associated thunderstorm
outflow will be potentially capable of 60 to 75 mph gusts as this
activity moves into the lower deserts. Marginally severe hail
(diameter up to 1 inch) may accompany the stronger thunderstorms
this afternoon near the Mogollon Rim. The severe thunderstorm watch area is approximately along and 60
statute miles north and south of a line from 55 miles west southwest
of Prescott AZ to 95 miles east southeast of Phoenix AZ. For a

Scattered damaging winds and isolated significant gusts to 75 mph possible Scattered large hail and isolated very large hail events to 2 inches in diameter possible SUMMARY...Ongoing supercells should continue to pose a threat for
large hail up to 1-2 inches in diameter as they move generally
southward this evening. Some threat for damaging winds around 60-75
mph may also exist, especially if a thunderstorm cluster can develop
