Lightning sparks Alaska’s largest wildfire of year

The McDonald Fire south of Fairbanks, Alaska, was reported to have burned more than 32,000 acres since its inception on June 8. The Bureau of Land Management Alaska Fire Service said the fire is burning in the military’s Tanana Flats Training Area. Crews are allowing the fire to burn naturally but are preparing defense operations around nearby cabins.
