Officials with the San Bernardino County Fire Protection District said that at least four structures were damaged, and two homes were destroyed during the Edgehill Fire on Monday. Gusty winds and temperatures above 100 degrees helped the fire spread on the Little Mountain.

Steering currents between the deep tropics and the mid-latitudes can become weak and variable around 30 degrees north latitude. Recent cyclones, such as Debby in 2024, Florence in 2018, Harvey in 2017, and Fay in 2008, all became stationary or stalled within a few hundred miles of the latitude.

A representative for the U.S. Customs and Border Protection says that they were alerted to more than two dozen packages of cocaine that washed ashore the Florida Keys during Debby. The agency estimates the drugs have a street value of over one million dollars.

Deadly Tropical Storm Debby continues to lash Florida and the Southeast with damaging wind gusts and flooding rain after making landfall as a Category 1 hurricane early Monday morning, and that’s having a major impact on travel for thousands of people hoping to catch a flight to or from places like Tampa and Orlando in Florida, and Charlotte in North Carolina.

Debby is now a tropical storm over North Florida. It missed Tallahassee, the largest population center in the area, but will bring relentless rain to areas east of there as it tiptoes into Georgia and eventually the Carolinas.

Coastal Georgia and the Carolinas will get drenched after Tropical Storm Debby stalls over the Southeast, as the storm could dump more than 2 feet of rain and cause potentially catastrophic flooding.

While the Southeast U.S. prepares for widespread impacts from Tropical Storm Debby, a new tropical disturbance is being monitored in the Atlantic Ocean.

Officials in Charles County, Maryland, said a sudden gust of wind during a Southern Maryland Blue Crabs baseball game lifted an inflatable 15 to 20 feet into the air, causing children to fall.

Debby threatens to produce a significant storm surge for parts of Florida’s Big Bend and west coast. Forecast models indicate that the surge could reach as high as 7 feet along the coast, between Tallahassee and Tampa.
