Numerous thunderstorms are expected to occur again today, with the threat of localized flooding. Portions of the Permian Basin, Big Country, and Concho Valley saw over seven inches of rain on Monday. We anticipate another busy day with plenty of heavy showers and storms in those regions. Rain chances will also spread into parts of Central Texas, Hill Country, Edwards Plateau, South Texas, Rio Grande Valley, Coastal Bend, Coastal Plains, and Southeast Texas.
Tropical moisture is in place, supporting impressive rainfall rates and a risk of localized flooding. Severe storms are not likely, but localized flooding will be a concern. Rain chances will continue tonight into Wednesday morning across the southeastern seventy-five percent of Texas.

After a wet Wednesday morning, we’ll see the best chance of storms shifting closer to the Texas Gulf Coast Wednesday afternoon. Wednesday night through Friday will feature isolated to scattered storms near the Texas Gulf Coast, South Texas, the Rio Grande Valley, and probably up into Southeast Texas. The remainder of Texas will see much lower rain chances.
Afternoon temperatures will remain below average for early September across most of Texas over the next two days, thanks to the rain and cloud cover. As rain chances diminish later in the week, high temperatures will return to the upper 80s to mid-90s across Texas. No tropical mischief is expected to directly impact the Lone Star State over the weekend. We must monitor a tropical blob in the Caribbean that may approach the Gulf of Mexico early next week. The development of that system remains uncertain, but we’ll be watching.
