A complex weather forecast is expected to unfold over the next twelve to sixteen hours, with a potential for severe thunderstorms, including isolated tornadoes, across the eastern third of Texas this afternoon. However, there are factors that may limit today’s severe weather threat to sporadic damaging wind gusts and large hail. Heavy rain and spotty flooding are expected to occur with the heavier storms.

Regardless, we can anticipate a line of thunderstorms moving through the eastern third of Texas from late this morning until early this evening. The timeframe to watch is between 12 PM and 9 PM, starting near Interstate 35 at midday and progressing eastward across Northeast Texas, East Texas, the Brazos Valley, Southeast Texas, and the Golden Triangle throughout the afternoon and into dinnertime. The storms are expected to exit Texas to the east and move off the coast by 8 to 9 PM.
