Seasonal Showdown: Record Heat And Wildfire Danger On The Rise

You might find it surprising that this week’s Texas weather feels more like April, but it’s actually early February! The chilly arctic air is still up north, letting us enjoy some wonderfully warm temperatures for this time of year. Most afternoons, we can expect temperatures to climb into the 70s, 80s, and even 90s across our beautiful state, lasting all the way through Saturday.

With these delightful warm conditions and the grasses and vegetation still taking a little nap, we’re seeing an increase in initial attack fire activity, which means wildfire potential is gradually rising in Texas this week. The highest threat will be in the western half of the state, where an uptick in ignitions was noted just this past weekend.

As for rain, we have some chances coming up from Tuesday night through Thursday morning, but if it does rain, it looks like it’ll only be a light sprinkle of a few hundredths of an inch. Our main change will be increased cloud cover on Tuesday.

After that, we’ll need to be a bit more patient as we wait until Sunday for our next chance of rain, which will bring a refreshing shift in weather patterns and cooler air back into the eastern two-thirds of the United States, including Texas, next week. No, we don’t know how cold it’ll get or if we’ll get snow out of it.
