Rogue Storms possible Tomorrow & Saturday in Northern Texas

A ‘not as hot’ front may bring modest relief from the heat and a few thunderstorms to northern portions of Texas over the next few days. Any storms that develop could produce lightning, gusty winds, small hail, and brief heavy rain. Grasses have dried out, so lightning may also spark wildland fires.

High temperatures will drop into the 80s on Friday and Saturday across the Texas Panhandle, where the best chance of rain will also exist tonight into Friday. Some lucky folks may pick up one-half inch of rain. Isolated storms are possible in the northern half of Texas on Friday and Saturday, with a vast majority staying dry and hot.

Above-average temperatures, with afternoon highs in the upper 90s and 100s, will continue across nearly all of Texas next week. No hurricane mischief is on the horizon for the Gulf of Mexico or Texas.

Increasing Grass & Wildfire Risk

Our wildfire threat is starting to increase across the western half of Texas. A few new fires on Wednesday burned over 2,300 acres (collectively) in the Big Country and the eastern Panhandle. Modest rain chances aside, we will likely see a continued uptick in initial attack activity over the next week with hot, dry weather. Be mindful that getting a grass fire in the late summer months doesn’t take much. Please be careful!
