FORECAST

RECORD HEAT ON MONDAY

Good morning! Get ready for a blazing hot day, at least by late-December standards. Mid-80s are a good bet, which would be record-setting in San Antonio. Some areas south of town could hit 90°, making South Texas the hottest place in the country today. Skies will be sunny.

FIRE DANGER

Gusty southwest winds increase the fire danger today. That is especially true across the Hill Country, where winds will be strongest. Any fire that develops could spread quickly. Red Flag warnings are in effect for those areas.

COLD FRONT FOR NYE MORNING

A cold front will sweep through by tomorrow morning. This will once again kick up the winds, but this time out of the northwest. It’ll also shave about 15° off of the high temperatures, returning us to more seasonable levels. Expect a high around 70 on New Year’s Eve, with sunny skies.

NEW YEAR’S EVE CELEBRATIONS

When we ring in the new year, it’ll be chilly, but not bitterly cold. Temperatures are forecast to be in the upper-40s around midnight Wednesday. Skies should be mostly clear and great for viewing fireworks.

COLD SNAP IN JANUARY?

We do know it’ll be cooler to start the year, with highs in the 50s on both Wednesday and Thursday. Beyond that, the models continue to hint at a colder airmass for much of the country, including Texas, by second week of January. How cold will it be? It’s far to early to know, but we’ll keep you updated!
