Rare Summer ‘Cool Front’ and Rain Chances arriving in Texas!

Changes are on the way to the weather across Texas, as a somewhat atypical summer cool front brings less hot weather and occasional rain chances over the next seven days. While this summer doesn’t have much footing compared to the last two summers, we’re about to get a lucky break. How do high temperatures in the 80s with cloud cover and rain chances sound? That’s what many will get to experience at some point over the next several days.

A cool front, reinforced by an outflow boundary, will push across the northern half of Texas today and continue south on Thursday. Isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms are likely near this boundary this afternoon, tonight, and Thursday as it pushes south.

Some storms may become strong with wind gusts over 55 MPH, pocket-change size hail, and frequent cloud-to-ground lightning. Locally heavy rain may also result in street flooding and a quick one to two inches of rain for some folks. This won’t be a widespread washout or ‘rain all day’ situation. High temperatures will be cooler across the northern half of Texas on Thursday, thanks to the uptick in cloud cover.

Friday and parts of Saturday will be less active, with most of the state returning to high temperatures in the 90s. However, another round of scattered showers and storms will begin in Texas on Saturday afternoon and probably continue into Sunday and the first half of next week.

Next Week’s Weather Forecast

Between 0.25

Sunday and Monday have the potential to feature high temperatures in the 80s across most of Texas, including all the way down to Interstate 10 in South-Central and Southeast Texas. The upper 90s would be confined to the Borderland, South Texas, and the Rio Grande Valley – though some ‘less hot’ weather may eventually make its way south toward the border next week. A continuation of precipitation chances and ‘less hot’ weather will likely continue next week. It sure beats the weather we were having around this time in both 2021 and 2022.
