Rainy Days Ahead, Texas! So are the 70s & 80s.

Unsettled weather will keep the rain chances coming to most of Texas as we end August and head into the first week of September. Those with outdoor plans for Labor Day should have a backup in their pocket but don’t necessarily go making changes. Much of our rain chances over the next several days will be the hit-or-miss variety, not necessarily lasting more than an hour or two for any location.

Today, scattered storms are expected to move onshore along the Upper Texas Gulf Coast, Southeast Texas, and the Golden Triangle. The closer you are to the coast, the higher the chance of rain. Heavy rain may also occur, with isolated flooding possible. More isolated storms will go inland into Central Texas, Brazos Valley, East Texas, and North Texas this afternoon.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected across the eastern and southeastern third of Texas today. Heavy rain is possible along the Upper Texas Gulf Coast. Rain chances become likely tonight in the Panhandle and West Texas as a cold front moves south.

Western half of Texas gets stormy tonight into Friday

This afternoon and especially tonight, showers and thunderstorms will develop as a cool front moves south across the Panhandle, West Texas, and Northwest Texas. As the front moves south into the Permian Basin, Big Country, and North Texas Friday morning, scattered storms will be possible. Gusty winds, small hail, and locally heavy rain will be possible.

Scattered thunderstorms are likely across a majority of Texas on Friday and Friday night. Some heavy rain is possible.

Weekend and Next Week look Rainy!

Off-and-on storm chances will continue through the weekend across Texas, though we will tend to see activity remain on the isolated and widely scattered side. Longer-range weather model data is still in disagreement on next week, but unsettled weather with rain chances looks to continue. Thankfully, the chance of rain also brings cooler temperatures. High temperatures in the 80s to lower 90s will become standard across Texas. Some lucky folks may not get out of the 70s some days! That’ll take us ‘below average’ in the temperature department for late August and early September. It’s a blessing!

Forecast rain totals over the next five days for Texas bring hope of beneficial rainfall to several regions.
