Rain & Storms Expected Today across Texas

As we escape the heat dome, an unsettled summer week is forecast across Texas. Plentiful moisture and no sinking air over our region mean we can crank out popup showers and storms daily this week. Today, there will be scattered storms across most of Texas. Widespread severe weather isn’t expected, but strong wind gusts, small hail, and heavy rain are probable. The highest number of storms will be during peak heating this afternoon. Isolated flash flooding can’t be ruled out.

Today’s high temperatures across Texas range from the 70s and 80s to the 90s. Most folks will be able to enjoy temperatures in the 80s today, which is about ten degrees below average for late July.

Multiple rounds of rain will fall across the southeastern half of Texas this week. Multiple inches of rain are possible, with the highest risk of flooding from South-Central Texas and the Hill Country into the Coastal Plains, Southeast Texas, and the Upper Texas Gulf Coast.

Scattered showers and storms will likely continue across the southeastern half of Texas throughout the week. With multiple days of rain chances, two to five inches of rain are expected. Localized rain totals over six inches, which is possible, especially in Southeast Texas and the Upper Texas Gulf Coast. We’ll have to keep an eye out for pockets of flooding. Some storms may produce strong wind gusts, frequent lightning, and small hail.

With all the rain and clouds across the southeastern half of Texas this week, high temperatures will remain below average in the 70s and 80s. The northwestern half of Texas will have lower rain chances after today. High temperatures will return to the 90s, though we may be able to squeak out more rain later this week.

Our active summertime weather pattern will continue into the upcoming weekend. Look on the bright side; if you end up with a nearby shower or storm, that’ll knock your temperatures down into the 70s and 80s. 😊
