Rain Chances Continue into the Weekend with Cooler Weather

A cooler continental airmass is filtering south into Texas this weekend, thanks to northerly winds. This change in the weather pattern will keep the risk of severe storms low through early next week. It’s a welcome break for those who have had to deal with stormy weather over the last few weeks, myself included.

This weekend, there is a chance of pop-up afternoon showers across the eastern half of Texas. These showers are expected to move south and southwest, influenced by an upper-level low to our east. Most people won’t see rain, and overall rain totals will remain minimal. However, Saturday night could bring a larger area of rain to the Ark-La-Tex and East Texas, with up to one-half inch of rain possible. Fortunately, severe storms are not expected during this time.

Cooler weather will linger until Monday, when we can expect a return to our typical May-time conditions of warmth and humidity. In the next five days, widespread thunderstorm chances are unlikely. However, we should keep an eye out for isolated severe storms in the eastern part of Texas starting Tuesday afternoon.
