Showers and thunderstorms will bring rain chances to Texas over the weekend. The overall risk of severe storms remains on the lower side and is isolated. Most storms this weekend will behave themselves, though heavy rainfall may cause flooding problems across the eastern half of Texas by Sunday.
Some parts of Texas may be in for a truly unique experience tonight. A powerful solar storm, one of the most intense since 2005, could bring the northern lights down to the lower latitudes. This is a rare occurrence, and those across the northern half of Texas, possibly as far south as Interstate 10, may catch a glimpse of this natural wonder on the northern horizon. Those in the Texas Panhandle might even see the lights further up the skyline if we get a strong burst overnight. We anticipate increasing cloud cover overnight in Texas, but there should be clear patches. If you manage to spot any on the horizon, we’d love to hear about it!

Active weather will continue next week, but no one day seems to feature more active weather than another at this point. Some severe thunderstorm threat will probably materialize, but for now, we will enjoy tonight’s aurora light show and cooler weather across the northern two-thirds of Texas.
