Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected to occur across Texas this afternoon through Saturday evening. It will not rain the entire time, nor will everyone get rain over the next three days. The best chance for rain at some point will be across the northern eighty percent of Texas.
Those in North Texas, Northeast Texas, and the Ark- La- Tex have the highest chance of receiving at least an additional three inches of rain. Flooding will become more likely on Friday and Saturday in Northeast Texas, where some locations may receive over six inches of rain.
Severe thunderstorm potential may increase in Northeast and East Texas this afternoon. Isolated supercelluar thunderstorms may develop – key word being *may*. If those storms fire up, similar to yesterday, they could likely become severe with a risk of tornadoes, very large hail, and localized damaging wind gusts. Activity will move northeast into Arkansas by late evening.
After midnight into Friday morning, another wave of strong to severe storms will erupt in the Big Country, West-Central Texas, and Northwest Texas. The strongest storms will likely produce very large hail and strong wind gusts. Tornadoes are not likely with the overnight round of storms in this area due to surface temperatures being cool. Activity may move east/northeast into Texoma and North Texas, though if it behaves like we saw this morning, most activity will remain northwest of the D/FW Metroplex. Showers and a few storms will be possible in the Panhandle, West Texas, and Permian Basin.
Severe storms are possible Friday afternoon through Saturday evening across the eastern half of Texas. The most intense storms may produce tornadoes, very large hail, and localized damaging wind gusts. Not all storms will be severe. Rain looks to mix with or change to snow on Saturday in the Panhandle and West Texas, where a wet – slushy accumulation may occur. Precipitation will end from west to east across Texas Saturday night, with beautiful weather beginning in Texas on Sunday.
