FORECAST

Good morning and happy New Year’s Eve! A cold front has swept through South Texas bringing relief after the second warmest December day on record in San Antonio (89°). Look for gusty winds during the first half of the day and highs will only be around 70°. Still, we’ll end the year with 2024 being the warmest year on record. It finishes just ahead of 2023. Impressive.

NEW YEAR’S EVE CELEBRATIONS

This forecast remains the same. We’ll see mostly clear skies and temperatures in the upper-40s as we ring in the new year. By Wednesday morning, low-40s and upper-30s can be expected.

COOL TO START 2025

Wednesday through Saturday will feature an increase in clouds and seasonable temperatures. Highs in the 60s and lows in the 40s will be the norm. By Sunday, temperatures will reach the 70s, before another front rolls through. It’ll bring us a small window for rain and usher in some much cooler air by Monday.

WHAT ABOUT THOSE RUMORS OF ARCTIC AIR?

You’re going to see plenty on social media about an arctic blast next week. While we feel fairly confident that, yes, colder air will make its way into South Texas in the Tuesday to Thursday timeframe (January 7th-9th), a lot of details need to be worked out. This forecast will evolve, so you’ll want to check back. For now, start making preps for a freeze. While freezing temperatures are not a guarantee, it never hurts to be ready. As for any precipitation, those odds are low, but we’ll keep an eye on the situation. And lastly, NO this WILL NOT be a repeat of February 2021.
