This evening, Tropical Storm #francine is organizing 125 miles southeast of Brownsville, Texas. Maximum sustained winds have increased to 65 MPH, and we anticipate it will intensify into a hurricane by Tuesday morning. The anticipated north turn has begun, and a slow north-northeast movement should be underway by morning.

Confidence is high that Francine will continue moving northeast on Tuesday and Wednesday. Landfall of what could be a formidable hurricane is expected around lunchtime on Wednesday in southern Louisiana. Impacts to the Texas Gulf Coast tonight through Wednesday morning will include the potential of tides one to three feet above normal and gusty winds. Locally heavy rain is possible in the Rio Grande Valley through Tuesday, and some showers are likely on Wednesday in the Golden Triangle. The eastward shift in the track forecast has reduced the chance of rainfall and lowered rain totals for Texas.
We’re lucking out with Francine, as a minor glancing blow seems the most likely solution for now. We’re still going to monitor trends, and we’re praying for our neighbors in Louisiana as they prepare for a significant threat from Francine.
