Hurricane Debby is making a ruckus in Florida this morning. Unfortunately, it looks to pull a Harvey-like move and stick around the Southeastern United States through the week. Portions of Florida, Coastal Georgia, and the Carolinas could pick up over two feet of rain. Catastrophic flooding is a severe risk. No direct weather impacts from Debby are expected in Texas.
Rain chances will remain low to zilch for most of the work week. Very hot conditions are expected statewide Tuesday through Thursday, with 100 to 112-degree high temperatures. Several towns will experience their hottest weather so far this year. Who knows, maybe we’ll get lucky; this will be the year’s hottest week. It’s August, and it’s typically hot in our part of the world. Dry and hot weather will promote an elevated risk of grass fires.

We may see a bit of a weather change late in the week and into the weekend. Some longer-range weather model data suggests a northerly wind shift may occur. Temperatures wouldn’t be all that less hot, but perhaps we can squeeze out a few showers and storms. We’ll see how those chances trend over the coming days. Regardless, we may be a bit less hot this weekend compared to the upcoming few days.
We’ll need to watch a tropical disturbance moving west across the Caribbean this week. It has a low chance of becoming a named system before it potentially reaches the Gulf of Mexico over the weekend. Texas has no issues at this juncture, but it’s always wise to watch the tropics this time of year.
