Today marks the warmest day in Texas for the remainder of 2024 as false spring descends, with near-record high temperatures anticipated. South Texas will experience highs in the 90s, while the Permian Basin, Concho Valley, Hill Country, and North Texas are expected to see temperatures in the 80s. The northern third of the state will enjoy milder conditions, with temperatures ranging from the 60s to 70s.

Please exercise caution, as there is a very high to critical risk of wildfires across the western half of Texas today. For those who relish warm weather, today is the perfect opportunity to enjoy it, as a return to more seasonal temperatures is forecast for tomorrow with the arrival of a cold front. Although New Year’s Eve will not be extremely cold, residents in the northern half of Texas may want to add some extra layers for warmth.
Next Storm Arrives This Weekend
Dry weather is predicted for the next several days across Texas, though lingering morning fog could persist this week in the southeastern third of the state. Light showers are possible beginning Wednesday near the Texas Gulf Coast. The next significant weather system is expected to move in on Sunday, bringing the potential for thunderstorms to the eastern half of Texas.
