Extreme Wildfire Danger & Summer Heat Return This Weekend

This weekend, summer heat will grip the western half of Texas, pushing temperatures into the 90s and low 100s. In contrast, the eastern third benefits from higher soil moisture and humidity, keeping temperatures in the 80s. Additionally, extreme wildfire risk returns this weekend along and west of Interstate 35; so please use common sense (which isn’t always common) and avoid burning down your entire county. We’ve already observed a rise in initial attack incidents this week, highlighted by a destructive wildfire near Rockport on Wednesday. Texas won’t see any rain in the next week; however, a cold front is predicted to lower temperatures to spring-like levels starting Monday. Expect windy conditions beginning Sunday.
