This week’s weather forecast for Texas includes some wind, but there won’t be any snow or mistletoe, just like Baldy’s thinning hairline. Christmas Day is expected to be mostly dry and warm across the state, so there’s no need for concern there. However, Christmas Eve and the days after may bring some thunderstorms.
To clarify, we’re not anticipating a repeat of the severe weather that occurred on December 26, 2015, so the doomsayers can relax and enjoy their eggnog. Still, some storms on Christmas Eve afternoon and evening could be strong, bringing pocket-change-sized hail, gusty winds, and heavy rain. The highest risk for storms tomorrow will be in North Texas, Central Texas, the Brazos Valley, the Ark-La-Tex, Northeast Texas, and East Texas. Most storms should remain manageable, with minimal tornado risk.

Rain is expected to move out of Texas early on Christmas morning. Our next storm system will arrive on Thursday, bringing the possibility of storms to the eastern half of Texas through Friday. Some of these storms could be strong to severe, producing large hail, damaging winds, and heavy rain, with a low risk of a tornado or two, although that remains uncertain at this time.
We are closely monitoring the trends and will keep everyone updated throughout the week, especially since many remember the events from nine years ago. However, the current forecast does not indicate anything similar to those past events. If that changes, we will let you know. Above-average warm temperatures are expected to continue across much of Texas this week, with the coolest spots being the Panhandle and West Texas, where afternoon highs will be in the 50s.
