Calm weather this weekend is expected to give way to storms as we approach the week of Christmas. In Texas, we can anticipate a relatively quiet weekend in terms of weather. Light rain or drizzle may occur in Deep South Texas and the Rio Grande Valley tonight and Saturday night. Otherwise, conditions look favorable for travelers this weekend.
However, a much colder air mass will move into the eastern 40% of the United States this weekend and early next week. Our weather will worsen on Monday night and Tuesday, with low clouds, fog, drizzle, and showers possible across the eastern half of Texas by Monday evening.

A cold front will push southeast on Tuesday. While it may not significantly cool temperatures, it will bring a chance of storms on Christmas Eve for the eastern third to the eastern half of Texas. Some storms could produce heavy rain, small hail, and gusty winds. Although Santa may need to navigate around some thunderheads in eastern Texas early Wednesday, we can expect a mostly dry and warm Christmas Day throughout the state. Another storm system is likely to impact our weather next Thursday and Friday.
