Chasing The Cold Front – Can You Find It?

A cold front is moving south through Texas today. A quick round of showers and storms may occur along the front’s leading edge across the eastern half of the state this morning and afternoon as it progresses southward. Severe weather is unlikely. Timing estimates indicate that the cold front will reach the Rio Grande Valley and Far South Texas around dinner time today. Gusty north winds and a ten to twenty-degree drop in temperatures are expected behind the cold front. Some areas will experience their highest temperatures this morning, followed by falling temperatures this afternoon.

We’re not expecting an Arctic outbreak; however, residents in the eastern third of the United States will experience one this weekend and early next week. A warm-up is anticipated tomorrow, with dry weather continuing until Sunday or Monday. Another cold front is expected to arrive on Christmas Eve (Tuesday), bringing the chance of rain across the eastern half of Texas. Current weather model guidance suggests that Christmas Day will mostly be dry and warm across Texas, with another storm system possible around December 26th or 27th (late next week). Overall, an active weather pattern is developing for next week, with warm temperatures expected from Christmas Day through the following weekend.
