Researchers at the University of Southern California (USC) Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences have discovered that thawing permafrost is releasing vast amounts of toxic mercury into the environment, posing a significant threat to the food chain. With the Arctic warming faster, the element is being released into watersheds such as Alaska’s Yukon River.
