We have some weather updates to share, starting with the possibility of severe storms tomorrow in Eastern Texas. Next week, we might experience an arctic outbreak that could bring some winter fun! We’re expecting quite chilly temperatures across the northern half of Texas by mid-week, with some areas possibly staying below freezing for a couple of days—and some even dipping close to zero.
Tomorrow’s Thunderstorm Threat

On Saturday, a quick round of storms is predicted for the eastern third of Texas, likely from mid-morning through the afternoon. There’s a mix of factors that could lead to severe storms with damaging winds, small hail, and maybe even a few brief tornadoes. However, I’m a bit worried we might not see the event meet expectations based on some higher-resolution weather model data. But even if things don’t pan out as dramatically, we should still be prepared for gusty winds, lightning, and brief heavy rain. Regardless, the storms should be moving out of Texas by late afternoon, leaving us mostly dry on Sunday and Monday.
Very Cold Temperatures Arrive Tuesday
Now, for those who aren’t fans of the cold, be prepared for a big chill next week! An arctic outbreak will be sweeping in, bringing very cold temperatures to the Plains and Texas from Tuesday to Thursday. The northern third of Texas might experience a chill with temperatures below freezing for a couple of days, while sub-zero temperatures could arrive in the Panhandle. Thursday morning could see the entire state drop below freezing, with many areas in the teens (or even colder) for the northern two-thirds of Texas. On Tuesday night into Wednesday, an upper-level storm system is expected to roll in, which might lead to some winter precipitation (think snow, sleet, or freezing rain) for the Panhandle, Northwest Texas, Big Country, Texoma, North Texas, and Northeast Texas—and just a rainy day further south.
While a lot can change by next week, we feel pretty confident about this chilly air mass. If that storm system brings precipitation, we could see some winter mischief accompanying it. Thankfully, a rapid warm-up is on the way by next weekend, with temperatures bouncing back to the 60s and 70s. So, while it’s going to be uncomfortably cold for a few days next week, we can look forward to milder temperatures soon after!
