A busy seventy-two hours of weather is upon us in Texas with the arrival of multiple upper-level storm systems. Today’s thunderstorm potential will extend across the Panhandle, West Texas, Northwest Texas, Big Country, Texoma, and North Texas. Most storms will behave themselves today, but a few severe storms are possible in the eastern Texas Panhandle and Northwest Texas this afternoon.
Localized damaging wind gusts, hail, and a tornado cannot be ruled out. Storms this evening will move into Northwest Texas; Big Country, Texoma, and North Texas will have a lower risk of severe storms.

Extreme fire danger is forecast across the western half of Texas today, coupled with strong winds. Monday will feature very high fire danger across the western third of Texas, but it will be mostly quiet in terms of thunderstorms until after midnight Tuesday.
A cool front will begin moving eastward very quickly on Tuesday morning across Texas. As that front advances east, we’ll see a line of thunderstorms develop after midnight Tuesday in Northwest Texas, Big Country, and the Concho Valley. These storms will also extend northward into Oklahoma. Some storms may be severe, with a risk of damaging wind gusts, brief tornadoes, hail, and heavy rainfall. Storms won’t linger long in any one area as they’ll be rapidly pushed east/northeast by the cool front. These storms will move across the eastern half of Texas during the morning and early afternoon hours on Tuesday. Once storms move east of your location, we expect rapidly clearing skies, strong westerly winds, blowing dust potential, and extreme wildfire danger.

The next few days across Texas will feature dangerous wildfire conditions, especially across the western half of the state. We have reached the point where we are now concerned about fires becoming long-lived and showing strong resistance to initial attack efforts. This means we may see some fires spread over thousands to tens of thousands of acres and require a significant increase in resources to control. Please be cautious with any outdoor activities that could produce sparks, and be mindful of evacuation routes should a fire approach your location.
