Light showers are expected tonight across the southeastern third of Texas. While most of the precipitation will be very light, we don’t expect any severe storms or flash flooding issues through Saturday morning. In areas where temperatures dip below freezing and light rain occurs, there might be minor ice accumulations on elevated and exposed surfaces in South-Central Texas, Hill Country, Central Texas, and the Brazos Valley. Don’t worry, this won’t turn into an ice storm, and we anticipate impacts to be quite limited. However, it’s good to keep in mind that some slick bridges and overpasses could develop where light rain happens overnight with surface temperatures falling below freezing (32 degrees Fahrenheit). Thankfully, temperatures in the mentioned regions will warm up above freezing by mid-morning on Saturday.
Looking ahead, we expect heavier showers and a few storms from Saturday afternoon through Sunday morning in Southeast Texas, the Golden Triangle, and possibly reaching into the Piney Woods of East Texas. These heavier storms could bring one to two inches of rain, and while isolated flooding is possible, severe storms don’t seem likely at this point. By Sunday morning, the rain should move out of Texas to the east, leaving the upcoming week looking dry and pleasantly warm. High temperatures by Monday are projected to climb back into the 70s and 80s statewide, helping us wave goodbye to the past week of cold winter weather!
