In parts of Central Texas, the Hill Country, South Texas, the Coastal Bend, and down into the Rio Grande Valley, we’ve been seeing some light rain and a bit of drizzle. Surface temperatures are staying nice and warm, hovering above freezing and ranging from around 34 degrees in the Hill Country to the lower 40s along the Texas Gulf Coast. For our friends in the coastal regions, the Rio Grande Valley, and Southeast Texas, it looks like we won’t see temperatures dipping below freezing with tonight’s precipitation.
However, there could be some areas in Central Texas, the Hill Country, the Brazos Valley, South-Central Texas, and possibly parts of South Texas experiencing a little patchy freezing drizzle tonight into Saturday morning. While we don’t expect widespread frozen precipitation, we’re keeping things light with a touch of humor—don’t worry, it looks like we won’t have to deal with too much freezing drizzle (or spit, if we’re having fun with it). If some does happen to fall in those areas tonight, just keep in mind that we might get a thin layer of ice on surfaces like bridges, overpasses, and untreated roadways. Most areas should stay mostly dry, but we’re going to keep a close eye on any travel disruptions just in case. The good news? By mid-morning Saturday, temperatures across Texas are set to rise above freezing, and heavier rains and storms are on the way for Southeast Texas and the Golden Triangle on Saturday night!
