Near-record heat lies ahead, cold front timing in question

FORECAST HIGHLIGHTS

  • CLOUDY, WITH SOME SUN THIS PM: Lots of clouds early today, staying warm
  • RECORD HEAT: Temperatures may soar to record levels by Saturday
  • COLD FRONT TIMING: Still in question, cold air may hold off until Monday

FORECAST

Good morning! Clouds have rolled into the area, with some patchy drizzle a possibility in spots. The clouds may be a little more persistent today, sticking around into the early afternoon. With this in mind, temperatures will be slightly cooler today. Expect highs in the upper-70s, while humidity stays in place.

HOW HOT WILL WE GO?

After today, afternoon temperatures will ramp up, with less morning overcast Thursday through Saturday. By Saturday, temperatures will reach the mid to even upper-80s. Some places could see 90s south of San Antonio. We’ll be near record territory.

COLD FRONT TIMING

The computer models have waffled a bit on the timing of a cold front late this weekend and into next week. This can happen when we get shallow, cold air masses trying to move into South Texas. The fronts can sometimes slow or stall. All of that to say, Sunday, at the moment, is not looking as cold as we once thought. The cold air could hold off until Monday. Small rain chances will come along with the front both Monday and Tuesday.
