Brace Yourself For Another Arctic Outbreak Next Week!

A strong cold front is expected to significantly change our weather this Friday and over the weekend. Similar to last week’s abrupt drop in temperatures, this system will bring a substantial amount of cold air from Siberia.

Compared to last week, we can anticipate calmer weather for the next several days, with a couple of chances for precipitation but no drastic temperature drops in the immediate future. However, this will not be the case for the upcoming weekend and into next week.

Friday's high temperatures will be the warmest Texas sees for a while - with 60s and 70s expected statewide.

We will remain near normal temperatures for January across the state until mid-week, after which a warm-up is expected, bringing temperatures into the 60s and 70s on Thursday and Friday. Light to moderate showers are possible on Wednesday across the southeastern third of Texas.

Below-average temperatures are likely across a majority of the United States next week as another arctic outbreak invades from the north.

Winter will return to Texas this weekend and may last several days into next week as a potentially long-duration cold snap affects much of the United States. As often happens with extended weather forecasts, there are still many unanswered questions. We are confident that another cold weather event is on the way, with temperatures likely comparable to last week’s coldest readings.

However, several questions remain, including the potential for winter precipitation (will we have a storm system while the cold air is in place?), how cold it will get, and when we can expect to warm up again. Next week’s cold snap may persist longer, with some areas in the northern half of Texas possibly remaining below freezing for an extended period.

At this point, we do not anticipate a repeat of the extreme cold experienced in 2021. While we expect an extended period of significantly colder weather starting this weekend, current data does not support the likelihood of extreme or record-breaking cold in Texas. If that changes, we will keep you informed.

It’s important to note that being a digital influencer on social media means the more clicks, shares, and views you receive, the more money you can make. Long before we started creating regular videos, back when we were running a weather blog a decade ago, we decided not to adopt a ‘hype for views’ approach. Yes, we might have been financially successful by now if we had, but we’d prefer to provide accurate weather information rather than resort to clickbait or sensationalism for quick fame.

Rest assured, if data suggests that an extreme or historic-level weather event is possible, we will not downplay it in order to maintain peace of mind. As we did in today’s video, we will review the forecast and explain possible alternative scenarios.
