Tonight: Freezing Fog And Slippery Black Ice Alert!

Yesterday’s winter storm dropped nearly a foot of snow across parts of the Texas Panhandle, along with near double-digit totals in eastern Texoma and northern sections of the D/FW Metroplex. We had significant snow accumulations in the D/FW Metroplex, and Northeast Texas. Not to be left out, the eastern half of Texas received beneficial rains. The storm system responsible for our weather yesterday is exiting stage east, and all precipitation will be out of Texas by late morning.

Temperatures will rise above freezing across all of Texas this afternoon with sunshine. Even in areas with a snowpack, the sunshine will allow for melting. However, temperatures nearly statewide will plunge below freezing tonight into Saturday morning. Any water or snow will quickly freeze into ice, potentially leading to locally dangerous road conditions. We may also see dense, freezing fog develop where snow is in place overnight – which could deposit a thin layer of ice.

Saturday and Sunday will bring warmer temperatures to Texas, with dry weather and a rapidly melting snowpack. We will see temperatures below freezing again on Saturday night across the northern half of Texas, so any water left on roads will freeze up again.

Cool weather will persist across the northern half of Texas over the next five days, with high temperatures generally topping out in the 40s, after 30s for the next day or two. The southern half of Texas will enjoy high temperatures in the 60s this weekend, with a cool down coming in on Monday. We may see a storm system with rain approaching the Texas Gulf Coast early next week, but confidence remains low.
