Christmas Eve Evening Storm Update: Loud Night Expected

Scattered thunderstorms are underway from South-Central Texas to the Brazos Valley and East Texas. The high-resolution rapid refresh (HRRR) model suggests the storms will grow upscale into a squall line this evening and move south into the Coastal Plains, Southeast Texas, East Texas, and the Golden Triangle tomorrow morning.

Some storms may continue to produce large hail, damaging winds, and heavy rain. The tornado threat is very, very low. Thunderstorms will move off the Texas coast and into the Gulf of Mexico around or by sunrise tomorrow. Most of Christmas Day will be free of significant precipitation impacts. Clouds and some fog may stick around the northern half of Texas tomorrow, though. Storm chances return to the eastern third to half of Texas on Thursday, with a risk of severe storms east of Interstate 35. We’ll talk more about that in our morning Texas Weather Roundup.
