Extreme wildfire danger and record-high temperatures will give way to thunderstorms and heavy rain chances late this week and into early November. Texas is finally about to break out of the dry weather pattern – though that’ll mean we’ll have to deal with some active weather, too.
Very high to extreme wildfire danger is expected today and tomorrow across the northwestern half to two-thirds of Texas. Increasing winds, low humidity, and hot temperatures will lead to the threat of plume-dominated and wind-driven wildfire behavior. Please be mindful not to cause a spark near the dry brush. Winds may gust over 50 MPH in the Texas Panhandle today and Tuesday.

Cold Front & Storm Chances Arrive Wednesday
A cold front will push across the western third of Texas on Wednesday. By late Wednesday afternoon, the front will be moving into Northwest Texas and the Big Country. Scattered thunderstorms are possible Wednesday evening through Thursday morning as the front slowly moves southeast and eventually stalls in Texoma, North Texas, Central Texas, and the Hill Country. Some storms may be rowdy with pocket-change-size hail, gusty winds, frequent lightning, and locally heavy rainfall. These storms will begin an active stretch of weather for Texas. The cold front will bring cooler temperatures to the northwestern/northern two-thirds of Texas on Thursday. A freeze is possible Thursday morning in the Panhandle and West Texas.
In the southeastern half of Texas, isolated showers and thunderstorms will be possible on Thursday and Thursday night. Rain on Thursday evening may impact some outdoor festivities. You can download our free Texas Storm Chasers mobile app to get location-specific forecasts on the chances of rain.
Friday and Upcoming Weekend Looking Wet & Stormy
Rain chances will spread back into the northwestern half of Texas on Friday, likely continuing into the weekend. Thunderstorms with heavy rain will become more likely this weekend in parts of the Panhandle, West Texas, Northwest Texas, and Texoma. Active weather, including thunderstorms, will likely continue into next week as a slow-moving upper-level storm system approaches from the southwestern United States. A strong cold front may arrive in Texas around November 5th-6th.
