A fairly typical summer-time weather pattern is setting up for Texas this week. This week, an upper-level ridge, or high pressure, will sit its happy self over much of the state. The result will be subsidence or sinking air, shutting down most rain chances. An exception will be in the Borderland, Panhandle, and perhaps the Texas Gulf Coast. A few showers and storms will be possible during the afternoon hours. Widespread rain is not expected in Texas this week, and most of the state will remain dry.

Hotter Weather is Coming to Texas
Afternoon high temperatures across Texas will range from the lower 90s along the immediate Gulf Coast to the 90s and 100s everywhere else. Several days of 100-108-degree weather are likely across the hotter regions of our state. Overnight temperatures will remain very warm, with lows in the upper 70s and lower 80s. Our heatwave, known as summer in Texas, will continue into the upcoming weekend. The wildfire threat will be elevated as surface fuels are dry.
Tropical Weather Update
No tropical mischief will impact Texas this week. The only tropical blob of interest will remain in the Atlantic. It may eventually pose an issue for Bermuda. We’ll watch the tropics but continue to look good as we head toward the third week of August.
