Saharan dust from Africa will make a return to Texas beginning today. A higher concentration of dust will likely create a noticeable haze across the eastern half of Texas Today, Thursday, and Friday.
Most of the dust will remain in the upper levels of the atmosphere. However, modest low-level visibility reductions can’t be ruled out. Wildfire smoke from large incidents across the West Coast will be overhead the Panhandle. Dust from Africa or wildfire smoke from the West Coast are your choices. Otherwise, typical summer-time heat will remain across Texas for the foreseeable future.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are probable this afternoon and evening across the western third of Texas. Locally heavy rain, frequent cloud-to-ground lightning, gusty winds, and blowing dust are expected with activity. Isolated Seabreeze popup showers are possible along the Texas Gulf Coast. We’ll do it all over again on Thursday and Friday.
Isolated showers and storms may return to more of Texas this weekend. Widespread rain isn’t likely, but we may see some isolated downpours as the upper-level heat dome shifts slightly away. It won’t be much, and most folks won’t get rained on. Still, the lucky ones may get a rain-cooled few hours.
A tropical wave over the Atlantic will likely pass near or east of the Florida Atlantic Coast in several days. That system will turn north and is not expected to enter the Gulf of Mexico. No sensible weather impacts are expected in Texas. We remain ‘all clear’ from tropical mischief for at least another week.
