Texas Weather: Multiple Rounds of Storms Tonight through Friday

Another night of localized but damaging wind in parts of West Texas and winds from a departing complex of relatively tame storms in Central Texas did more damage than the storms themselves. Oh, the fun of daily thunderstorm clusters in Texas. At least we’re not doing the whole ‘hurricane-force wind event’ over hundreds of miles again this morning. That’ll probably be a Thursday and Friday thing, though. Can you tell we’re just as tired as Y’all with this active thunderstorm pattern?

Isolated storms have mostly dissipated this morning across Texas. As we head into the afternoon, we’ll likely see at least isolated storms pop up across the eastern half of Texas near remnant outflow boundaries from yesterday’s storms. This afternoon’s popup storms could produce large hail, localized damaging wind gusts, and heavy rain. We expect another round of isolated severe storms east of the dryline in the Panhandle, West Texas, south into the Permian Basin and Big Bend. Very large hail, localized damaging winds, and perhaps a tornado will be possible. It may be less active than yesterday.

Storms Tonight through Thursday Night

Multiple clusters of thunderstorms will be possible beginning Thursday morning and continuing into Saturday. One cluster may move across parts of the Panhandle and Oklahoma tonight into Thursday morning. If that cluster materializes, it may move south of Oklahoma into Texoma, North Texas, and Northeast Texas tomorrow morning. Damaging winds, hail, and heavy rain would be possible. Depending on the timing and organization, it may be another one of those clusters that will try to move into East Texas and Southeast Texas tomorrow afternoon.

The dryline will likely become active Thursday afternoon in the Panhandle, West Texas, and the Permian Basin. For the first several hours, the most intense supercell storms could produce very large hail and perhaps a few tornadoes. One or more complex storms could then organize and move southeast into Thursday night and Friday morning into the eastern two-thirds of Texas. Some hurricane-force wind gusts, hail, and heavy rain may occur. Yeah, it could be another nasty, longer-lived storm system.

More Active Weather Friday Afternoon into the Weekend

Some weather models indicate another nasty thunderstorm complex could develop and move across parts of North, Central, and Southeast Texas Friday afternoon into Saturday morning. With multiple rounds of storms, we could also see quite a bit of rain and flooding. At least some chance for thunderstorms to continue on Saturday and Sunday across the eastern two-thirds of Texas – though just how many storms are still up in the air. We may start switching back to a hotter weather pattern next week, but some nightly storm chances could also continue.
