Florida officials say a large red tide bloom in the Gulf of Mexico is underway following hurricanes Helene and Milton in 2024. According to the latest update from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Karenia brevis, the organism responsible for red tide, was detected in 75 samples collected from the Gulf Coast over the past week.
