Marine scientists have identified and named a mysterious creature of the deep sea after studying the elusive sea slug for twenty years.

A winter weather event known as an Alberta Clipper will descend from Canada later this week and roll across the northern tier, potentially bringing snow to at least 12 states from the Dakotas to New England.

Winter weather is making its presence known across the U.S. as millions of people deal with the onslaught of a long-duration, lake-effect snowstorm that has paralyzed communities downwind of the Great Lakes. And to make matters worse, rounds of arctic air will continue to invade the country and send temperatures tumbling below freezing in cities as far as the Southeast.

The Bills will take on the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday night at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park. Lake-effect snow bands have dumped more than 3 feet of snow this weekend near and south of the Buffalo area.

Meteorological winter begins on Dec. 1, while astronomical winter will begin on Dec. 21.
