URGENT - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST REQUESTED Severe Thunderstorm Watch Number 553 NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 240 PM EDT Wed Jul 17 2024 The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a * Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of District Of Columbia Delaware Central and Eastern Maryland Southern New Jersey Central and Eastern Virginia Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia Coastal Waters * Effective this Wednesday afternoon and evening from 240 PM until 1000 PM EDT. * Primary threats include... Scattered damaging wind gusts to 70 mph possible SUMMARY...Thunderstorms are intensifying over the mountains of western Virginia. These storms will track eastward through the afternoon, posing a risk of locally damaging wind gusts. The severe thunderstorm watch area is approximately along and 110 statute miles east and west of a line from 45 miles northeast of Baltimore MD to 10 miles southwest of Richmond VA.
