A wind-driven wildfire burning uncontrolled north of Los Angeles is creating unhealthy air quality throughout Southern California after exploding in size to 11,000 acres within 24 hours.
Looking at the 30 years from 1991 to 2020, the average development date for the first named storm in the Atlantic, the Caribbean Sea or the Gulf of Mexico is in the third week of June. It looks like Mother Nature might be getting organized right on schedule.
The National Hurricane Center is monitoring a tropical disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico that could develop into a tropical depression or tropical storm this week, and while the system is expected to stay south of the U.S., fears are growing that tropical moisture being pulled north could lead to flash flooding along the Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi coasts.

Scattered damaging winds and isolated significant gusts to 80 mph possible Isolated large hail events to 1 inch in diameter possible SUMMARY...A severe squall line will likely continue east across northern and into northeast North Dakota tonight. Severe gusts (60-80 mph) will be the primary risk with the stronger surges and embedded bowing segments within the thunderstorm band.
